Three new film projects supported

German-Turkish Co-Production Development Fund
The German-Turkish Co-Production Development Fund, established by the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, the Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein and the Istanbul Film Festival - Meetings on the Bridge with the support of the Republic of Turkey's Ministry of Tourism and Culture, has selected three projects in the 2020 selection session. more

Let the bear hunt begin

Hamburg-based director Mohammad Rasoulof is aiming for a Golden Bear with "There is no Evil". At the end of January, the festival management announced that the film would be running in the Competition at the 70th international film festival in Berlin. FFHSH will be represented by no less than seven world premieres at the Berlinale, among them political thriller "Curveball" and First Steps winner "No hard feelings". more

Warner Bros. to provide Filmförderung one million euros support annually from 2020

New Cooperation
New lease of life for film in Northern Germany: Hamburg-based Warner Bros. Entertainment GmbH will contribute to state funding in Germany for the first time, in the future topping up Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein (FFHSH) subsidies by one million euros annually. To boost development of new talent, at least 25 per cent of the total will go towards youth projects. Warner and FFHSH signed the corresponding agreement today. The subsidy will be awarded by a new FFHSH committee from April 2020. more

Film maker from Hamburg sentenced

Mohammad Rasoulof
According to Filmfest Hamburg, director Mohammad Rasoulof, who lives in Hamburg and Tehran, has been sentenced to one year in prison in Iran. Rasoulof received an award for his drama "A Man of Integrity" at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. more

Cannes Classics pay Homage to Ingmar Bergman

71st Cannes Film Festival
This year, there are two movies representing northern Germany at the Cannes Film Festival: Margarethe von Trotta's homage 'Searching for Ingmar Bergman' will have its world premiere in the "Cannes Classics" category; and animated movie 'Another Day of Life' will be playing out of competition. Both movies are backed by Hamburg production houses. more
