MOIN Film Fund supports cinema films, high-end series and innovative audiovisual formats of all genres. Projects are financially supported from the first draft through production to distribution and festival presentation. Decision criteria for funding include the content-related or innovative quality of the respective project as well as a comprehensive connection to Hamburg or Schleswig-Holstein. This includes Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein as filming locations and the utilisation of the specialists and film technology companies located here.
Behind the Scenes: Supervisory Board and Committees
A total of four committees, consisting of experienced industry experts, decide on the allocation of funds: The "High End" committee decides on feature films and series with production costs of over 2.5 million euros and cinema documentaries with production costs of over 1.5 million euros. Euro. The "Director's Cut committee" decides on feature films and series with a budget of up to 2.5 million euros and cinema documentaries with production costs of less than 1.5 million euros. The Kiel-based "Short Film" and "Innovative" committees support short films and innovative audiovisual formats. The committee for our development platform "NEST" is made up of alternating members from all four committees.
Every autumn, Filmfest Hamburg delights over 45,000 cinema fans. Over ten days, around 140 national and international feature films and documentaries are shown on eleven screens as world premieres, European premieres or German premieres. The programme ranges from cinematically sophisticated arthouse films and innovative mainstream cinema to a colourful programme of films and events for the youngest cinema-goers in ten fixed and annually changing sections. As a platform for cultural exchange and dialogue, most of the films are presented by the filmmakers themselves in Hamburg. Numerous events make Filmfest Hamburg an important meeting place for cinema enthusiasts and the film industry alike. Festival director since 2024 is Malika Rabahallah.
Creative Europe is the EU's only programme to support the cultural and creative sectors in Europe. In total, the Creative Europe programme has a budget of 2.5 billion euros available for the next seven years (2021 - 2027). 58% of this (€1.5 billion) will go to the MEDIA programme, the EU's sub-programme for the audiovisual industry. MEDIA promotes the development of feature films, animated films and documentaries, television series, VR/AR projects and computer games. It also supports film distributors and sales agents, festivals and markets in the film industry, training courses and institutions for film education in Europe as well as the Europa Cinemas cinema network, which includes over 2,800 cinemas around the world. The Creative Europe Desk Hamburg MEDIA is one of four information offices in Germany and the point of contact for questions about the extensive funding opportunities within the programme.
